In the past, brussel sprouts were mainly used on Christmas time. They were served boiled and mushy! My husband hated them until I convinced him to try my braised “garlicky” sprouts. He is a big fan now!
This recipe is vegetarian but can be transformed into a meaty one by adding diced bacon, chorizo or kielbasa (Polish sausage).
Ingredients
- 500g of brussel sprouts
- 1 tbsp of garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp of white pepper
- 2 or 3 tbsp of olive oil
- 1/2 tsp of turmeric
- 1 tbsp of honey or maple syrup
- Salt, to taste
Method
Step 1
Remove the bruised outer leaves from the brussel sprouts, take off the tip of the stems and cut them in two. Wash thoroughly and place in a colander to drain.
Step 2
When ready to cook, heat the oven to 200 C then toss the sprouts in a roasting dish with the other ingredients. Combine well and roast until nicely caramelised.
